Build your strategic college plan: one year at a time

Freshman

  • Create a strong Four-Year Academic Plan for high school

  • Build a personalized strategy reflecting the student’s interests, goals and passions; Focusing on enhancing depth of involvement and accomplishments

  • Identify community service and leadership opportunities

  • Establish good time management

  • Enhance organizational and study skills

Sophomore

  • Focus on fine-tuning strategic plan – emphasis is on balance: coursework and extracurricular

  • Adjust the Four-Year Academic Plan to continue to demonstrate a challenging curriculum

  • Determining standardized testing strategy based on student’s PSAT testing results

  • Begin college research and college visits

  • Discuss with Marrs opportunities for shadowing and internships

Junior

  • Increase attention on personalized strategic plan with spending more time with Marrs in order to structure the process to eliminate any potential stress

  • Review Four-Year Academic Plan to make sure student is on track to graduate with strong curriculum and all requirements have been met

  • Begin treating the college planning process as though it is another class at school

  • Schedule standardized testing

  • Start systematically getting ready for the application process

  • Narrow college list to a reasonable number of schools

  • Maintain commitment to earning competitive grades

  • Enhance leadership roles with extracurricular activities

Senior

  • Complete the college application process early

  • Submit the FAFSA and CSS PROFILE during the first semester

  • Maintain strong academics and grades throughout senior year

  • Submit all college applications with time to meet scholarship application deadlines

  • Set up interviews with those colleges that offer interviews

  • Notify the college you plan to attend by April 29

  • Notify all other schools that you do not plan to attend

  • Graduate strong
